A Skimmer (in Italian "Schiumatoio", in English "Protein Skimmer") is a filter that removes dissolved organic substances from marine aquarium water through foam fractionation: a pump mixes water and air, generating millions of microbubbles that, as they rise inside the skimmer chamber, trap proteins, oils, food residues, and other organic compounds. The impurities are thus concentrated into a dense foam that collects in the collection cup, to be emptied periodically. The skimmer is essential in marine aquariums because, by removing excess proteins before they decompose, it allows the nitrogen cycle to be maintained in balance, promoting reduced nitrate and phosphate levels, an essential condition for having clean water and healthy animals.Curved-Profile Venturi
Ultra Reef has developed fully disassemblable curved-profile venturis, refined through more than 15 years of continuous evolution to mix large volumes of air and water, creating a dense and effective foam. The adjustment of Ultra Reef skimmers is simple and precise. The extraction capacity is controlled by a knob that operates a threaded gate valve.
